Belhaj denies arrest by Turkish authorities

The Chairman of the Watan Political Party in Libya, Abdel Hakim Belhaj, has denied being arrested by Turkish government authorities as circulated on social media and media outlets.

“I am in Istanbul to be part of several meetings with Libyan diplomats and political stakeholders to find a way out of the current Libyan political deadlock.” Belhaj explained on Monday.

He also urged for more support for dialogue among all Libyans, adding that all should stick to the Libyan Political Agreement that was signed in Skhirat, Morocco in December 2015.

Social media and media outlets said Sunday that Belhaj had been arrested by Turkish authorities in Istanbul.
