Cairo Institute screens 8 short films by young Libyan directors to promote human rights in Libya

As a celebration of the International Day of Human Rights, which is the 10th of December of each year, the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) presented eight short films produced by young (Libyan) directors.

The films subjects dealt varied from freedom of expression to children’s rights and domestic violence, as well as the challenges human rights defenders face in Libya as part of a project supported by the European Union.

The head of the EU mission to Libya, Ambassador Bettina Muscheidt , said during the ceremony “Libyans do not want to give up their basic rights, including freedom of speech, the right to be treated with dignity and protection against discrimination or arbitrary detention,”

The films were screened at the French Institute in Tunis, with the support of the EU Delegation to Libya, the French-Libyan Institute and the RĂ©seau Euromed France (REF), according to a statement published on the CIHRS website.
