The Italian Navy announced Monday that it had rescued 500 illegal migrants from boats off the Libyan coast and recovered six drowned bodies that fell off a dinghy across the ocean.

The Italian Navy also said that helicopters and other coastguard boats combed the ocean around the area in which they intercepted the boats for any more survivors or drowned bodies.

“One death in every 42 migrants crossing the Mediterranean into Europe. The migrants come mostly from North Africa to Italy – from Libya particularly -. This number is compared to one death in every 52 last year.

The number of migrants crossing Libyan waters into Europe has rocketed over this year with unimaginable numbers crossing the sea every day , some reaching Italy and others dying on the way to achieving a better life and a better future.
