The twentieth anniversary of the Abu Saleem Prison Massacre is to be commemorated by Libyans on Wednesday, when the people will remember the killing of more than 1250 prisoners by Muamar Gaddafi’s brigades.

The massacre took place back in 1996 when the Gaddafi brigades stormed Abu Saleem prison in Tripoli and claimed to gun down the mutinied prisoners, using heavy weapons and grenades.

Today, the Abu Saleem Prison Martyrs’ Families Association organized a sit-in in front of the Attorney General’s Office in Tripoli to remind people of the incident that until today has not been referred to court.
