Over 4 million euros of cash seized at Misurata Airport

The money was taken under heavy protection to Al-Jumhouriyah Bank in the city.

The smuggling of 4.5 million euros (over 40 million Libyan dinars) in two bags by businesspersons has been foiled by Misurata Airport security, a source from the airport reported.

The source added that the euros were en route from Misurata to Istanbul onboard an Afriqiyah Airways flight.

“The bags were taken without scanning and when one of the airport employees who are tasked to take the bags abroad the airplane sensed that they are very heavy, he decided to ask the security to make sure what was in the bags.” The source added.

The money was taken under heavy protection to Al-Jumhouriyah Bank in the city.

According to a source from the airport, the man who was trying to smuggle the money managed to fly to Turkey.
