UNSMIL concerned over clashes in east Tripoli

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said Sunday that it was concerned of the clashes that erupted in eastern Tripoli on Sunday between forces aligned with the Salvation Government and forces of the Government of National Accord.

UNSMIL tweeted that the clashes in Garabulli district – over 50 km away from the capital – are an unwelcome escalation as they could undermine the political dialogue, peace and reconciliation processes.

UNSMIL also urged all parties to refrain from using force and resort to calming things down.

It also added that the Presidential Council is the only legislative authority in Libya and any other political conflicts can be resolved though dialogue.
