Vaccines for children to be imported by beginning of March
Amid the current acute shortages of vaccines in the healthcare centers in Libya, the Head of the Vaccination Department in Tripoli, Abdelbaset Esimo, told the press Sunday that the Medical Supplies Department had contracted some companies to import sufficient amounts of vaccines for children in the coming weeks.
“We are doing our best at the Health Ministry to avoid being put in a juncture similar to that of 2015, when there were acute shortages of vaccines, so we did our best to import them this year before it is too late and the vaccines will arrive in Libya in three weeks.” Esimo added.
He explained that the imported vaccines will be divided into different types, some types will be adequate for three months, some other types will be enough for six months, while a third type of vaccines will be sufficient for a year to come.
The vaccines that are supposed to be imported soon include BCG vaccine for newborns, Rotavirus vaccine for two, four and six month old babies, and the MMR vaccine for one year and one year and a half old children.
