The Italian Coast Guard announced Sunday that it rescued hundreds of illegal immigrants on board a warship. It said the immigrants were rescued in Sicily .
Italy’s Coast Guard added that more than 1200 migrants were rescued in the sea and were received by medical staff from the Italian Red Cross for medical checks before transferring them to shelter centers.
Worth mentioning that since the closure of the Balkan route due to the EU and Turkey’s agreement, the number of immigrants seeking entrance to Europe through Italy has increased and has reached about 30 thousand this year alone.
