Cultural salon in London: National integrity of Arab Jews

The Chairman of the Libyan Jews Union, Raphael Luzon said at the salon that he rejects being described as a Zionist or Israeli, as he is an Arab Jew, saying like Arabs who are Muslims or Christians, he is an Arab Jew.

A cultural salon took place in London on July 21 and revolved around the national integrity of Arab Jews and their integration to their countries from which they were forced out.

The Chairman of the Libyan Jews Union, Raphael Luzon said at the salon that he rejects being described as a Zionist or Israeli, as he is an Arab Jew, saying like Arabs who are Muslims or Christians, he is an Arab Jew.

Luzon also talked about his efforts to contact all the current Libyan conflicting parties in order to convince them to be entitled to preserving Libya’s stability and security.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ramadan Benzeer – the professor of international law and human rights – said the meeting in London comes after the controversial meeting in Rhodes, Greece, where Israel was represented on the ministerial level and Israel’s friend countries were also represented.

“The question here why is Israel involved in that meeting if there is no connection between it and Libyan Jews?” Dr. Benzeer added, asking Luzon to outline the history of Libyan Jews, which is always talked about but never given due presentation to the public, especially in terms of resistance against Italian fascistic colonisation and afterwards when the Tripoli Republic was formed.

“We want you to clarify the history and actions of the Libyan Jews who sacrificed for Libya in order for us to celebrate their contribution to Libya.” Dr. Benzeer told Luzon.

He also asked Luzon several questions in the stream of the conversation, confirming to his that Libya can definitely include all the diverse social components with no eliminations.

Luzon said at the end that Dr. Benzeer and other participants’ questions need more time to be discussed and promised to hold another meeting to expand on the left subjects.
