HoR Speaker says GNA is illegitimate, calls for ignoring its decisions
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqilah Saleh, called on all the state institutions to abstain from implementing the decisions made by the ministers and officials of the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), pointing out that it is not legitimate, while Al-Thanni government in the east is.
In a statement on Monday, Saleh issued a statement saying that the GNA ministers were not approved or given confidence by the HoR and they did not swear the official oath in the HoR headquarters, therefore; any decision they make or action they take is invalid and illegitimate, adding that all state institutions must ignore any orders given by the GNA ministers.
“Al-Thinni government – HoR’s transitional government – is the legitimate government that has been appointed by the HoR in Tobruk and it is working effectively up until today and until a real unity government is formed and given confidence by the HoR.” Saleh indicated.
He added that laws are laws and the constitutional state must respect them, which means that all must adhere to the laws as the legitimacy basis for the work they are carrying out.
