Security personnel in Al-Hira checkpoint – the northern entrance of the city of Gharyan – caught 86 illegal immigrants of different African nationalities, some hidden inside a water tanker and some on board a truck coming from the south and heading to Tripoli, where they intend to venture a deadly cruise on dinghies to Europe.

An official in the checkpoint, Walid Belhaj, said on the Gharyan Municipality Facebook page that the arrest happened on Friday morning, adding that there were 42 women among the migrants, while they caught other 18 immigrants inside a water tanker among whom there were also some women.

Belhaj added that some security personnel from the Al-Hira checkpoint vowed that they won’t be easy on anyone who tries to risk the security of the country and the safety of the people.
