Libyans furious as they spend winter days in total blackouts

The residents of the eastern region, especially Al-Bayda and Green Mountain as well as other cities, suffered from total blackouts over the last couple of days and acute outages of power during the whole week, which kept falling in temperature.

On Thursday, the residents of the eastern region spent the whole day shivering due to a very freezing wave of weather coupled with a total blackout and no electricity.

Al-Bayda city had to close all of the public institutions and call it a day off so that people and children can remain at home under their blankets as they had no electricity to use their heaters.

In the western and southern region, people experienced lesser kind of cold waves and lesser hours of power outages ranging from 8 to 12 in the west and 10 to 15 in the south.

The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) said the outages and blackouts in the country are caused either by technical faults in the power plants’ units or by acts of sabotage or lack of security that hinders maintenance works.
