The Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord has issued a statement on Tuesday denouncing the exhumation of the shrine of the father of Libya’s monarch Idris Al-Senussi: Mohammed Al-Mahdi Al-Senussi in Al-Kufra last Friday.
“We call on the Libyan authorities and the Attorney General to commence in their legal procedures to bring down the criminals who did this heinous act.” Fayez Al-Sirraj – the Head of the Presidential Council, said.
Al-Sirraj told Anadolu Agency that such an act is against religion and is a violation of human codes and manners.
Relevantly, the Libyan Fatwa House denounced in a statement on Tuesday the attack on the shrine of Al-Senussi, saying it was prompted by Saudi Arabia and its Madkhalists and Salafists who are loyal to eastern strongman Khalifa Haftar.
“Madkhalists are being sent to Libya by Saudi Arabia in order to destabilize the country and abort the revolution. Those are all loyalist of Khalifa Haftar and his self-styled army in eastern Libya.” The Fatwa House said on its Facebook page.
According to local media, the attackers were from the Salafist armed group Sobol Al-Salam that is loyal to Operation Dignity of Khalifa Haftar. They dug up the shrine and took the remains of Al-Senussi’s corpse to an unknown place.
