US anti-ISIS envoy, McGurk: We’re encouraged by Albunyan Almarsous progress
Barack Obama’s anti-ISIS envoy Brett McGurk said the exceptional growth of the extremist group had stopped and fighter numbers had frozen at around 5,000.
“I just don’t want to get ahead of the situation because it remains pretty fluid. But we’re encouraged by the progress they’re making,” said McGurk, describing the Albunyan ALmarsous forces.
“They’ve been able to control Sirte by force. But once you have a credible force on the ground that moves against them, there is a chance that they could crack pretty quickly.” “But I don’t think we’re there yet.” He added.
