Libya’s western region threatened by imminent blackout
According to officials at Al-Zawiya oil refinery , an armed militia shut the gas pipeline that is feeding the power generator at Al-Hersha power plant, which feeds large parts of western Libya including Al-Zawiya and Tripoli.
“If the militia did not open the pipeline and allowed the power generator to work, then the western cities and towns will experience a blackout after one day.” The oil refinery officials said on Monday.
They said the power plant is using emergency diesel fuel to operate currently, but once it runs out of fuel, the western cities will have no more electricity until the pipeline is opened.
Meanwhile, there is a very freezing wave of cold that has come onto Libya since last Thursday with temperatures going below zero at night, adding to the people’s misery given the long hours of load shedding by the General Electricity Company in Libya.
