Libyan eastern Ministry of Economy bans, dismisses Italian firms
The Ministry of Economy of the Libyan eastern Interim Government of Abdullah Al-Thinni, has issued a statement banning contracting Italian firms in Libya.
The statement that was issued on Monday also bans any extension of work for the already-working Italian firms in Libya.
“There will also be no formation of joint ventures with Italian companies until a further notice.” The statement adds.
This step comes after the Government of National Accord’s Prime Minister, Fayez Al-Serraj, signed a deal with Italy that allows the latter to send a naval mission into the Libyan waters to fight migration flows and human traffickers.
However, Khalifa Haftar and the eastern House of Representatives as well as the Interim Government rejected the agreement and called a violation of Libya’s sovereignty.
