New 5000 HIV cases reported in Libya since January 2018

The Libyan Health Ministry’s Center for Disease Control said on Monday that about 5000 HIV cases have been reported since the start of 2018.

According to the director of the Center for Disease Control Badr Al-Deen Al-Najjar, some cases are new and others have been living with the virus for a while.

“Only 2,000 patients are registered with the Center’s system and have received treatment,” Al-Najjar explained.

The latest statistics raise the number of the virus infections in Libya to more than 10,000, up from nearly 6,000 infections registered in 2017, according to the health ministry.
