Haftar and son meet UN envoy in Libya

UN envoy meets Haftar and his son in talks on Tripoli security and stalled elections

Khalifa Haftar, accompanied by his son Saddam Haftar, met on Sunday with the United Nations Special Envoy to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, at his headquarters in al-Rajma.

According to media outlets close to Haftar, discussions focused on the security situation in the capital, Tripoli, as well as prospects for national elections and upcoming political deadlines.

The meeting comes amid ongoing deadlock in Libya’s electoral process, with disputes persisting between political and military factions over electoral laws and candidate eligibility.

The fragile security environment in Tripoli remains a central concern for the UN as it seeks to revive the political track.

Observers also highlighted the presence of Saddam Haftar at the talks, viewing it as a sign of his growing visibility on Libya’s political and military stage, amid speculation over a potential role in future national contests.
