Sirte marks historic graduation of first female police officers

The Police Training Institute in Sirte has marked a significant milestone with the graduation of its first class of female police officers, in a ceremony held on Thursday and attended by senior security and municipal officials.

Among those present were the Mayor of Sirte, Mukhtar Al-Madani; the Director of the Sirte Security Directorate, Major General Ahmed Amadi; the Director of the Sirte Gulf International Airport Security Directorate, Major General Yousef Al-Aslab; and the Director of the Institute, Brigadier General Mubki Lamin, alongside a number of officers and department heads.

In his address, Mayor Al-Madani praised the Ministry of Interior for what he described as sustained attention to police training institutions, commending the graduation of the first cohort of women officers in the city. He reaffirmed the municipality’s readiness to provide full support to the Institute in carrying out its mandate, and urged the security directorates in Sirte, as well as at the airport and seaport, to receive further intakes of female officers.

Major General Ahmed Amadi underscored the “vital role” female officers play in strengthening the security apparatus, highlighting the discipline and commitment demonstrated by the graduates throughout their training. He expressed confidence in their ability to discharge their duties with professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility.

Brigadier General Mubki Lamin, Director of the Institute, extended his appreciation to the Sirte Security Directorate for its material and moral support of the programme. Addressing the graduates directly, he called on them to uphold discipline, integrity and honesty in their service, and to carry out their duties with dedication.

In remarks to the Libyan News Agency, Brigadier General Lamin confirmed that 29 female trainees successfully completed the three-month course. The programme combined theoretical instruction in a range of security sciences with practical training, including a field visit to Sirte International Airport. During the visit, trainees received detailed briefings on airport operations and demonstrated, according to officials, a high level of competence in applying their classroom learning.

The ceremony concluded with the honouring of both trainees and instructors, in what organisers described as a reflection of strong discipline and operational readiness. The graduation is being seen locally as an important step towards broadening the role of women within Libya’s security institutions and reinforcing community-oriented policing in Sirte.
