Tunisian Ben Gerdane residents protest against continuous shutdown of Ras Ajdair border

Hundreds of Tunisians in the southern town of Ben Gerdane protested Tuesday morning against the closure of the border with Libya, sources stated, adding that the Tunisian police used tear gas to disperse them off the main road.

Outrages and steamed up, Ben Gerdane protesters set tires ablaze and chanted anger slogans in resentment of the closure of the Tunsian-Libyan border of Ras Ajdair by the Libyan side disallowing them from carrying out their usual work to and from Libya.

Ben Gerdane residents mainly depend on the cross-borer trade from Libya to Tunisia and vise versa as their basic source of income, however, this step of closure by the Libyan side ticked them off and left them in great levels of rage.

It is worth mentioning that a couple of weeks ago, the commander of the Ras Ajdair security guard, Muhammad Jarafa, said Libya will keep the border shut until “bad treatment” by Tunisians to Libyans crossing the border is altered and until the Tunisian authorities assume responsibility of fixing the way Libyans are picked on as they cross the border to Tunisia.
