ALBA condemns US action against Venezuela as “act of war”

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) has condemned what it described as an act of war by the United States against Venezuela, warning that the move constitutes a serious breach of international law and threatens regional stability.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ALBA said it “categorically and unequivocally” denounces what it called military aggression by Washington against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The alliance said the alleged action represents a deliberate violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
ALBA also raised concerns over the fate of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, saying his whereabouts remain unknown following what it described as a military operation.
The bloc called for immediate confirmation of President Maduro’s safety and demanded his unconditional release, holding the United States fully responsible for any harm that may befall him.
ALBA said its member states reaffirm their support for the Venezuelan government and people, stressing that external pressure or intervention would not succeed in undermining Venezuela’s institutions or political will.
The alliance urged governments, political forces and social movements worldwide to publicly condemn the alleged aggression and to defend sovereignty, peace and the right of peoples to self-determination.
