UN envoy Hannah Tetteh meets Sassou Nguesso to review Libya developments

The President of the Republic of the Congo and Chair of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, Denis Sassou Nguesso, held talks on Thursday with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hannah Tetteh, in Brazzaville.

According to the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the meeting reviewed recent political and security developments in Libya and examined ways to advance the roadmap that Tetteh presented to the UN Security Council on 21 August.

The discussions also emphasised the need to strengthen coordination between the African Union and the United Nations in order to ensure progress in Libya’s national reconciliation efforts. Both sides highlighted that victims should remain at the centre of the process, as an essential part of any inclusive national dialogue.

Tetteh expressed her appreciation to President Sassou Nguesso for his continued support of UNSMIL’s work and his engagement with Libyan parties. She also acknowledged his efforts in backing Libya’s transition towards unified and legitimate institutions through elections.
