Ban Ki-moon appoints new Deputy Head for UNSMIL
The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, announced Wednesday the appointment of Maria do Valle Ribeiro of Ireland as his new Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
The Irish diplomat will also serve as United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Libya.
Ms. do Valle Ribeiro is going to succeed Ali H. Al-Za’tari of Jordan, to whom the Secretary-General said he is grateful for his dedicated service during his tenure in Libya and for his contribution to the coordination of the United Nations system in the country.
