Tripoli authorities underline reform efforts amid parliamentary criticism

Member of the House of Representatives Saeed Amghib has raised concerns about ongoing discussions on political initiatives connected to the UN mission and figures aligned with the Government of National Unity (GNU).
His remarks come at a time when Tripoli-based authorities continue to emphasise their commitment to stability, institutional reform and preparing the country for long-term political transition.
In a post published on Facebook, Amghib argued that some of the proposals being discussed may resemble earlier governance arrangements that, in his view, had faced challenges in extending authority across all regions. He expressed reservations about what he characterised as a return to previous centralised approaches.
Officials in Tripoli, however, maintain that the GNU has made significant progress in improving service delivery, strengthening security coordination in the capital and supporting national reconciliation efforts. They have repeatedly stressed that cooperation with international partners — including the UN — remains essential for advancing political, economic and security reforms.
Government sources note that several of the initiatives currently under discussion aim to consolidate institutional stability, reduce fragmentation and pave the way for a unified political process. They highlight that maintaining administrative structures in Tripoli has been crucial for ensuring continuity of public services and avoiding further political vacuum.
While Amghib expressed concerns about returning to governance models he views as ineffective, authorities in Tripoli say ongoing dialogue and inclusive political engagement are necessary to prevent renewed divisions. They argue that strengthening central institutions remains key to supporting nationwide development, economic recovery and preparations for future elections.
The debate reflects broader national discussions on how best to structure governance and advance a sustainable political settlement.
