Dbeibeh inspects Misurata casualties

Government pledges full support for Misurata blast victims, defense ministry orders review of storage sites

Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, on Saturday visited the victims of the recent ammunition depot explosion in the Al-Skirat area of Misurata.

During his visit, Dbeibeh inspected the condition of the wounded and reviewed the medical care being provided. He received reports from medical teams on the status of the injured and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to mobilising all available resources to ensure their treatment and recovery.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of Defence announced the formation of a specialised committee to identify alternative sites for storing weapons and ammunition outside residential neighbourhoods in Misurata. The committee has been tasked with assessing and maintaining existing depots, considering the establishment of new secure facilities, and overseeing the removal of stockpiles currently located within civilian areas and non-military premises.

The decision comes amid mounting concern over the dangers posed by storing munitions close to populated areas, particularly following the deadly explosion that shook Misurata earlier this week.
