Desert Rally Champions Gather in Libya’s Waddan for Four-Day Event
The tenth annual T-T Desert Rally commenced Thursday in Waddan, southwestern Libya, drawing 50 competitors and their support teams from around the world.
The event showcases both four-wheel drive vehicles and motorcycles, with notable participation from several Arab nations, including Kuwait.
The opening ceremony thrilled spectators with dynamic vehicle exhibitions and motorcycle displays, followed by a ceremonial parade of competing teams. After the festivities, participants made their way to the Waddan desert camp to prepare for the challenging stages ahead in the sweeping dunes.
Set to unfold over four days, the rally features a series of carefully crafted competitions across designated desert terrain. Participants will pilot their vehicles—from specialised off-road machines to agile motorcycles and quad bikes—through courses meticulously designed by the organising committee.
Organising committee member Ali Al-Sheikh highlighted the rally’s significance beyond athletics. “This gathering stands as a celebration of unity,” he explained, “demonstrating to the world Libya’s stability and our people’s dedication to maintaining peace and security.”
The competition has attracted an impressive international field of elite off-road enthusiasts.
Beyond the strong Middle Eastern and North African presence—with competitors from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Kuwait—the rally has drawn participants from across the Atlantic, including teams from the United States and Canada.
