Eastern Libya deports 155 migrants in renewed border clampdown

Eastern Libyan authorities have deported 155 migrants through the Imsaed border crossing, in what officials describe as a renewed drive to tighten border controls and curb irregular migration.

In a statement, the Media Office of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency said the operation was conducted in two phases as part of broader enforcement measures across the region.

The first group comprised Egyptian nationals, who were repatriated via the Imsaed crossing on the Libyan–Egyptian frontier.

A second group — including migrants from Eritrea, Somalia, Bangladesh and Guinea — was transferred to the Qanfouda shelter and deportation centre. Officials said they would complete the necessary administrative and legal procedures there before being returned to their countries of origin.

Authorities in eastern Libya have in recent months intensified security operations aimed at dismantling smuggling networks and reinforcing oversight along key land borders, amid sustained regional and international pressure to address irregular migration flows through the country.
