Egypt, Algeria calls for timely elections in Libya

Libya’s polls were scheduled to take place on Dec. 24 but were postponed

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Tuesday called for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya simultaneously.

Tebboune arrived in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Monday for a two-day official visit.

“I agreed with the Algerian president on the importance of organising the Libyan presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously,” al-Sisi told a press conference following his talks with Tebboune.

Libya’s polls were scheduled to take place on Dec. 24 but were postponed over disagreements among the country’s political rivals. No new date for the vote has yet been agreed.
