Egypt reiterates support for Libya’s unity and political path

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Libya’s unity and sovereignty, stressing that any political settlement must be shaped by Libyan-led efforts.
During a meeting in Cairo on Sunday with Chadian Foreign Minister Abderrahman Abdel Fadil, held on the sidelines of the Egypt–Chad Joint Committee, Abdelatty said Egypt supports initiatives aimed at forming a unified Libyan government capable of preparing the conditions necessary for holding national elections.
He underlined the importance of strengthening Libya’s legitimate institutions, especially the House of Representatives, to complete the frameworks needed for organising simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
The two ministers also discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional developments, including the situation in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa.
They addressed the conflict in Sudan, calling for an immediate ceasefire and urging a return to dialogue in order to safeguard the country’s unity and reduce the humanitarian impact on civilians.
Both sides highlighted the importance of joint African and regional efforts to support de-escalation and contribute to resolving crises across the continent in a manner that promotes security, stability and development.
