Five killed in heavy street clashes in western Tripoli
Azzawiya city went into uneasy calm this Saturday morning after heavy clashes in the city center on Friday.
The clashes were between armed groups from Azzawiya, western Tripoli, and both armed groups used medium and heavy weapons as well as artillery shelling in the city’s downtown.
“Even tanks were seen passing in the streets and through civilian-inhabited roads.” Sources from the city added.
An official at the Red Crescent in Azzawiya, Muhand Karima, said that five men were killed and others were injured in the deadly clashes.
“Families are caught up in the middle of the armed groups’s fight and we have contacted both sides to allow us a safe passage so that we can =get those families out.” Karima indicated.
The Friday morning clashes in Azzawiya also led to a wave of displacement among the families, sources reported.
