Group calls on Attorney General to reveal details of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi killing

The National Gathering for All Libya has formally rejected a statement circulated in the name of supporters of the former regime, describing it as invalid in both form and substance and insisting it does not represent the group “in any capacity”.
In a public statement, the movement said the designation used in the disputed text amounted to “impersonation of a non-existent capacity”, accusing its authors of misleading public opinion in the aftermath of remarks delivered by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.
The Gathering stressed that those who issued the contested statement — or any other entity — have no right to speak on behalf of former regime supporters at large. It argued that any political position must be expressed strictly within the framework of recognised bodies or organisations to which individuals formally belong.
Call for investigation into Saif al-Islam Gaddafi killing
The group also renewed calls for clarity over the killing of Saif al‑Islam Gaddafi, urging the Attorney General to “exert every possible effort” to uncover the full circumstances surrounding what it described as a “heinous crime” and to bring those responsible to justice in accordance with Libyan law.
In its statement, the Gathering described Saif al-Islam as representing “a broad segment of Libyans across different orientations and affiliations”, citing what it characterised as his national symbolism and his proposed political vision for a unified Libya. It referred to the large crowds that attended his funeral, describing the turnout as a powerful public expression of support at a time when he was considered among potential presidential contenders.
Warning against political exploitation
The National Gathering for All Libya said it remains committed to pursuing what it called the “national project” associated with Saif al-Islam, aimed at building “a single, modern and unified Libyan state”.
It urged Libyans to demonstrate awareness, responsibility and cohesion, and to uphold what it termed shared national principles and identity. The statement concluded with a warning to any parties seeking to “play on the narrative of former regime supporters” for narrow political gain, cautioning that such actions risk undermining national efforts at a sensitive juncture for the country.
The Attorney General’s Office has not yet publicly responded to the group’s appeal.
