HNEC approves mayoral election results in 35 municipalities

The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has announced the completion and formal endorsement of mayoral election results in 35 municipal councils, part of the second phase of nationwide municipal council elections.
In its statement, the commission confirmed that the elections were conducted in line with existing laws and regulations. It praised the supervisory committees for ensuring transparency and fairness, and said the full results would be referred to the Ministry of Local Government in accordance with the executive regulations.
The commission had earlier, last week, approved the electoral constituencies for 28 municipalities in preparation for the third phase of the municipal elections.
On 16 November 2024, HNEC concluded the first phase of municipal elections, which covered 58 municipalities out of a total of 143 across the country.
