Italian envoy meets Aqila Saleh, stresses importance of elections
Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, held a meeting on Monday with Italian Special Envoy to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino, in al-Qubba in the Eastern Region.
“Continuing his consultations in Libya, this morning in Qubba Special Envoy Nicola Orlando met the Speaker of the House of Representatives Agila Saleh with Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino,” Italian Embassy in Libya tweeted.
The Italian diplomats met Sunday with the outgoing Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, and Deputy President of the Presidential Council, Abdulla al-Lafi, in Tripoli.
Orlando and Buccino stressed “the importance of continuing the political track in Libya, to hold presidential and parliamentary elections,” according to a statement by the Presidential Council.
It is noteworthy that the Italian Consulate General in Benghazi has started granting tourist visas to Libyan citizens wishing to enter Italy, the Tripoli based Libyan Foreign Ministry confirmed today.
