Italy supports an agreement by all Libyan political parties leading to elections

Italy’s ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, reaffirmed, on Saturday, his country’s desire that all political parties in Libya reach agreement and maintain security and stability, in order to achieve national elections, based on sound constitutional basis.

He stressed that stability of Libya is fundamental and important for the stability of the Mediterranean region.

This came during Buccino’s meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Government of National Unity, Najla Al-Manqoush, when they discussed the latest Libyan political developments and the efforts of the Ministry and the Government of National Unity to promote stability and peace in the country, according to the ministry’s media office.

The meeting, which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripoli, touched on the latest developments to prepare for the international conference to be held in the German capital, Berlin, this September, in the presence of the United States, Russia, China, Germany, France and Britain, according to the office.

For her part, Al-Manqoush stressed the need to accelerate the political process, leading to national parliamentary and presidential elections in accordance with an agreed constitutional framework, as soon as possible, underlining the rejection of any measure or action that would undermine the government’s work in preparation for elections.
