Libya–Africa corridor project under review in Tripoli

The Supreme Joint Committee for the Libya–Africa Transit Corridor Project, formed by the Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP) and the Ministry of Transport, held its first meeting of 2026 on Wednesday at LAIP’s headquarters in Tripoli.
According to a statement issued by LAIP, the meeting centred on a review and assessment of a feasibility study prepared by a specialised US-based consultancy. The study underscored the project’s economic and strategic value, highlighting its potential to strengthen domestic and regional connectivity, support trade and logistics activity, and drive development through an integrated infrastructure network.
The project is also seen as part of broader efforts to diversify Libya’s economic base and reinforce its position as a regional logistics hub linking domestic routes with wider African and international corridors.
During the meeting, committee members identified a series of technical observations and proposed amendments to the study. Those remarks are set to be referred to the consultancy for further discussion ahead of the release of the final version, in a step aimed at ensuring the study is aligned with the project’s objectives and meets approved technical standards.
The meeting reflects the committee’s push to tighten the project’s technical framework and improve the quality and accuracy of its outputs before moving in an organised way towards implementation.
The Libya–Africa Transit Corridor Project forms part of a wider package of major investments pursued by LAIP in Libya, Africa and Europe across sectors including transport, energy, telecommunications and logistics, reinforcing its role in backing strategic infrastructure and long-term development initiatives.
