Libya cautious over US role in Central Bank talks

Khalifa Al-Daghari, a member of the Libyan House of Representatives’ Finance Committee, stated that the committee had no official involvement in the recent U.S.-led meeting in Tunisia concerning Libya’s central bank.
He indicated that the committee was not informed about the meeting’s agenda and any invitation extended to the committee head was likely an individual invitation.
Al-Daghari expressed concern over holding the meeting outside of Libya, suggesting that such a venue for discussions on internal matters could be perceived as diminishing Libya’s sovereignty.
He further raised concerns about potential U.S. intentions to influence the distribution of the central bank’s revenues, which he views as a potential threat to national sovereignty.
Despite these concerns, Al-Daghari expressed hope that the meeting would contribute positively to the unification of the central bank and the establishment of its board of directors.
