Libya, UK open new chapter in military cooperation

British Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff Air Marshal Harvey Smyth met with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah on Sunday to discuss strengthening military ties between the two nations.
The high-level meeting, which took place at the Prime Minister’s office in Tripoli, centred on enhancing military cooperation, including training programmes and capacity building for Libya’s armed forces.
“We are committed to strengthening our partnership with the United Kingdom in the military field to improve the efficiency of our institutions,” Prime Minister Dbeibah said during the meeting.
Air Marshal Smyth reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to supporting Libya’s defence sector, emphasising the importance of military training and rehabilitation programmes in promoting regional stability.
The Libyan delegation included Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, the Director of the Minister of Defence’s Office, and the Prime Minister’s Adviser. British Ambassador to Libya Martin Longden also attended the talks.
The meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security cooperation between Libya and its international partners.
