Libyan delegation seeks stronger World Bank partnership

A senior Libyan delegation has held talks with the World Bank Group in Washington to outline next year’s joint work programme in line with the priorities of the Government of National Unity.
The discussions were led by Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, the Prime Minister’s economic adviser and head of the National Council for Economic and Social Development, together with Finance Minister Khaled Al-Mabrouk and High Council of State member Ibrahim Sahad. The meetings focused on designing practical, jointly implemented programmes, while exploring new mechanisms to guarantee investment—particularly in renewable energy and large-scale development projects.
Speaking from Washington, Sahad said Libya’s pursuit of unity and stability stood “at a critical crossroads”, adding that continued engagement with US partners would be essential to achieving inclusive governance and sustainable development.
Finance Minister Al-Mabrouk said the delegation anticipated “ongoing and substantive dialogue” with the United States on supporting Libya’s economic transformation. He described the visit as further proof of the “enduring importance” of the relationship between the two countries, expressing hope for deeper American backing for a unified and stable Libya.
