Minister pledges stricter enforcement of labour laws

Foreign workers face deportation as Libya tightens labour rules

Libya’s Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation, Ali Al-Abed, has underlined the importance of continued cooperation between the Ministry and security agencies—especially the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency—to enforce labour laws and reduce the number of undocumented workers in the country.

Speaking during a visit on Tuesday to the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency’s headquarters in Tripoli, the Minister reviewed the deportation procedures for a group of migrant workers who were recently detained during an inspection tour. That tour, led by the Minister last week, targeted residential areas where foreign workers are known to live.

He explained that these deportations are part of a wider plan to create a more organised and legal work environment in Libya. The goal, he said, is to ensure that all foreign workers comply with national regulations. The Minister also confirmed that inspection campaigns will continue, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
