Mohamed Zubya unlucky not to score against Egypt

Libya national team striker, Mohamed Zubya

Libya national team striker, Mohamed Zubya, is delighted with his side’s performance against Egypt in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Egypt earned three crucial points on Friday night after beating Libya 1-0 to top Group F of their African World Cup qualifiers group.

It could have been a totally different story hadn’t it been for Mohamed El-Shennawy’s heroic first-half save against Mohamed Zubya, which saw the ball hit the post from close range.

Zubya says that he was unlucky not to find the back of the net and claims to be satisfied with the team’s performance.

“Losing 1-0 will certainly affect us, but there’s still an important match in Libya and I hope we can win,” the former Partizan Belgrade striker told the press after the game.

“I was unlucky by hitting the post. I was hoping to score a goal and make the Libyan fans happy.

“Mohamed Salah is a great player and everyone knows what he’s capable of, as he represents all Arabs abroad, but we came to play against the Egyptian national team, not Mohamed Salah, and every player did their job.

“We don’t regret our plan against Egypt, and we are satisfied with ourselves and the coach, and we hope that the coach will be satisfied with us.

“The tactics were good and the evidence is that we performed well and lost by only one goal,” he concluded.

The Group F standings are currently Egypt in first place with seven points, Libya are second with six points, Angola lie third with three points, and Gabon are in last place with only one point.

Egypt will face Libya once again on Monday, October 11, but this time in Benghazi, with a victory nearing them closer than ever of advancing from their group.
