MP: External funding must not influence Libya’s political outcomes

Libyan MP Rabia Abu Ras has warned that the Qatari ambassador’s signing of a financing agreement to support the UN roadmap carries “a political dimension” that goes beyond technical assistance.
Speaking to Al-Masar TV, Abu Ras stressed that any external funding to the UN mission must respect Libya’s sovereignty and avoid steering the political process towards new forms of regional influence.
“We are assessing this move with caution and questioning how this funding will be used inside Libya,” she said.
Abu Ras added that the UN mission must align its activities with Libya’s national mechanisms, ensuring transparency in both the nature of the funding and how it is spent.
She further noted that external support does not grant any foreign actor the right to shape the outcomes of political dialogue or influence the priorities of the political process.
While expressing support for any effort that helps stabilise the country, she emphasised that funding must not become a tool to “direct” the political path or “impose” agendas that do not reflect the will of Libyans.
