Presidential Council official meets EU ambassador

Member of the Presidential Council Abdullah Al-Lafi held discussions yesterday with EU Ambassador to Libya Nicola Orlando at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli.
The meeting focused on recent developments in the security and political situation in our capital. Al-Lafi and Orlando stressed the importance of protecting civilians and vital infrastructure during these challenging times.
Both officials emphasised that preventing Tripoli from sliding back into conflict remains a top priority, with strict adherence to the current ceasefire agreement.
The two sides agreed on the need for a comprehensive political solution to end the ongoing crisis, with backing from the UN Support Mission and the international community. Such efforts aim to pave the way for national elections that would restore legitimacy to state institutions.
Ambassador Orlando affirmed the EU’s continued support for Libya and praised the Presidential Council’s efforts to advance the political process and achieve national reconciliation.
Sources close to the meeting told Libyan Express that discussions also touched upon the recent tensions in southern Tripoli, though specific details were not disclosed to the press.
