Court in Sabha hands 15-year terms in civil registry fraud case

A criminal court in Sabha has sentenced a foreign national and a Libyan intermediary to 15 years in prison each for their involvement in a bribery and identity fraud scheme.

The court also imposed a fine of 10,000 Libyan dinars on each defendant after finding them guilty of coordinating the falsification of national identification numbers through an employee at the civil registry in Sabha.

According to case details, the scheme enabled seven foreign nationals to obtain Libyan national identification numbers in exchange for a total of 17,000 dinars.

The employee implicated in the case received the sum of 17,000 dinars through a third party who acted as a coordinator for the bribery operation.
