Saddam Haftar orders probe into killing of Egyptian in Amsaad

Local sources in the eastern Libyan border town of Amsaad, adjacent to Egypt, have reported the killing of an Egyptian youth, Salah Abdullah Hafiz Al-Mahfouzi, during a security operation in the area. Video footage circulating online appeared to show him being assaulted by members of the military police.
In response, Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander of the Libyan General Command, ordered an urgent investigation into the incident. He emphasised that no one is above the law and pledged that those responsible would be swiftly held accountable.
In Egypt, the Al-Mahafeez tribe, part of the Awlad Ali confederation in Marsa Matrouh, issued a statement calling on its members to remain calm while confirming it is following up the case through official channels. Tribal leader Bashir Al-Mahfouzi noted ongoing coordination with Libyan tribes and relevant authorities, as well as cooperation with Egyptian officials to facilitate the repatriation of the body.
The body of the young man was transported via the Sallum border crossing to Marsa Matrouh General Hospital. His funeral is expected to be held at Al-Fath Mosque following Friday prayers. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has urged Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue the matter with the Libyan authorities.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances of the incident, with both Libyan and Egyptian sides closely monitoring developments.
