Salim Alaradi returns to Canada after two years of detention in the UAE
“Ladies and gentleman, I’m overwhelmed to be home after the last two years,” Salim Alaradi, the Libyan businessman who was detained in the UAE for two years, told a news conference at Toronto Pearson International Airport upon Hus arrival on Monday evening.
The Libyan-Canadian businessman had spent nearly two years in detention in the United Arab Emirates before he was acquitted last May and allowed to return home.
“I am home today because thousands of people in Canada and from the world spoke out. I’m grateful to each of you,” he said.
Alaradi told reporters he had no words to describe his emotion at seeing his wife and children after the ordeal. He grew emotional as he described finishing the vacation that he had started with his family before he was arrested.
