Shammam: No lasting peace in Libya without Misurata’s involvement

Libyan journalist Mahmoud Shammam has underlined the central role of Misurata in shaping Libya’s future, warning that any political settlement excluding the city would face significant challenges.

In a post published on his official Facebook page, Shammam was commenting on a large-scale meeting held on Saturday by various components of Misurata. The gathering, hosted at the Iron and Steel Complex hall, saw participants voice strong opposition to an initiative led by US presidential adviser Massad Boulos.

Reflecting on the city’s influence, Shammam wrote: “Just as war is difficult without Misurata, peace becomes even more difficult in its absence.”

His remarks come amid growing political tensions surrounding the proposed initiative, with Misurata’s position emerging as a critical factor in the broader national dialogue.

Observers note that the city has long played a decisive role in Libya’s political and military landscape, making its stance a key consideration in any effort to reach a sustainable settlement.
