Shanib: Creating parallel bodies will only deepen Libya’s crisis

Libyan House of Representatives member Intisar Shanib has called for the immediate cancellation of the newly announced “Supreme Council of Presidencies,” describing the move as unlawful and lacking any constitutional foundation.
In comments made to Libya Al-Hadath, monitored by Libyan Express, Shanib said the parties behind the initiative bear full political and legal responsibility for its consequences. She warned that Libyans “will not stand idle in the face of any attempt to undermine the country’s unity or circumvent the legitimate legislative authority.”
Shanib stressed that national dialogue, respect for constitutional legitimacy, the unification of state institutions, and the organisation of presidential and parliamentary elections remain the only credible route to stability. The creation of parallel bodies, she added, would merely deepen existing divisions.
She argued that the formation of the new council is, in effect, intended to obstruct the electoral process by introducing new political balances outside the framework of recognised political agreements — an approach she said Libyans reject unequivocally.
