The Tarhuna Victims Association has renewed its call for an end to the culture of impunity in Libya, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to justice, truth and redress for victims and their families.

In a statement issued to mark International Human Rights Day, the Association said that the crimes committed in Tarhuna including unlawful killings, enforced disappearances and the discovery of mass graves remain a profound and unresolved wound for Libyan society.

The statement stressed that the continued failure to hold perpetrators accountable represents the greatest obstacle to achieving lasting peace and addressing historical injustices.

According to the Association, 66 people remain missing, with their fate still unknown, a reality it described as unacceptable and one that requires serious and responsible action from all relevant authorities.

The Association urged Libyan authorities to take immediate and concrete steps to support ongoing investigations and to accelerate efforts to bring those responsible to justice. It also called for full cooperation with specialised international bodies involved in accountability and forensic investigations.

At the same time, the statement expressed appreciation for the role played by international partners, acknowledging their solidarity and continued support for the victims and their families in the pursuit of justice.
