Tunisia and Libya forge healthcare partnership

The Tunisian Minister of Health, Mustafa Al-Farjani, met on Monday with a senior Libyan delegation to establish new frameworks for healthcare cooperation and address outstanding financial obligations between the two nations.
The Libyan delegation was led by Dr. Ahmed Melitan, head of the Therapeutic Services Support and Development Authority, alongside Libyan Ambassador to Tunisia Mustafa Qadara and First Embassy Adviser Haitham Al-Suwai’i. The officials agreed on several initiatives during their meeting with Tunisian health authorities.
The agreements include developing a unified platform to monitor Libyan patients’ care in Tunisia and establishing a centralised registration office to oversee patient admissions at private healthcare facilities.
Both parties agreed to explore joint pharmaceutical manufacturing ventures and medical expertise exchange through specialist physician placement. The framework also includes plans to enhance air medical transport services for emergency cases.
Minister Al-Farjani emphasised the importance of these measures for bilateral healthcare cooperation. The Libyan delegation confirmed its commitment to settling outstanding debts owed to both public and private Tunisian healthcare institutions.
The meeting, attended by Tunisia’s Director-General of Health and ministry officials, focused on implementing practical solutions to strengthen medical cooperation between the two countries.
