UN envoy calls for Security Council accountability on Libya

Libya’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Taher Al-Sunni, has stated the Security Council owes Libyans an apology for perpetuating a “vicious circle” of unresolved issues.
Speaking at a Security Council session, Al-Sunni noted that members unanimously recognise the current political impasse.
He urged the Council to take decisive action against unilateral measures that deepen institutional divisions and resist external attempts to dictate Libya’s future.
The ambassador questioned the Council’s genuine commitment to resolving Libya’s crisis whilst calling for conditions conducive to completing the electoral process and political transition.
